The problem with conventional security systems

Low level of testing accuracy

Conventional body scanners and security systems use electromagnetic waves in the high-frequency millimeter waveband. These electromagnetic waves are absorbed by water, which makes it highly difficult to detect objects such as armpits and people in the rain.

Extended test times and considerable manpower requirements

Conventional metal detectors are only capable of detecting metal. Therefore, if the detector reacts, it becomes necessary for the inspector to check the belongings of the subject concerned. This makes the testing both time consuming and burdensome on the humans.

Limited application scenarios

As metal detection suffers extended testing times and is cumbersome for humans, the situations to which it can be applied are limited. Application scenarios include airport security, etc., but such detection is often not used in large commercial facilities or event venues, which are at similar risk.

The walk-through security system developed by IGS uses observed spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields to detect knives and firearms hidden in armpits and bags.

This security gate can function when integrated with roads and walls and can detect metal knives hidden in bags. As it only detects weapons, privacy is protected.

Applicable Scenarios

Application to locations and scenarios with daily visitors

The walk-through security system is envisaged to be applicable to many locations including schools, shopping malls, public transportation, and event venues. Currently, it is difficult to conduct antiterrorism and antirobbery searches of personal belongings in places with daily visitors. The IGS system, however, can perform real-time weapon image detection and risk analysis in locations with large number of people, that too without disrupting the traffic flow.
